Declutter surfaces: a practical task plan
Declutter surfaces appears in four Kleara rooms with four defaults, from daily in the kids' room to every three months in the basement. Compare the lines before planning.
One task name, four rhythms
Declutter surfaces is the only task in Kleara whose defaults span the whole range of frequencies. It is daily in the kids' room, weekly in the living room and the office, and every three months in the basement. Those are four independent lines; changing one leaves the others as they were.
The task is a planning prompt to clear surfaces and decide where things go. It is not permission to throw away someone else's belongings, and the app has no way to record what was kept or removed.
What happens when all four rooms are in the plan
The example on this page schedules only the declutter lines of the four rooms, starting on 26 October 2026. The kids' room takes every day from 26 October. The living room starts on 28 October, the basement on 30 October and the office on 31 October, so the weekly lines and the basement job sit on different days.
That gives 37 occurrences in 28 days, and 28 of them come from the kids' room alone. Days with two declutter tasks are the days when the living room or office line meets the daily one, for example 28, 30 and 31 October and 4 and 7 November.
Make the task finishable
- Decide what the line covers in each room, such as the coffee table and shelves in the living room or the desk in the office; if a clearer name helps, replace the line with Add task and your own wording.
- Keep a single place for items that need another person's decision, and leave the task open or move it with Move to another day when that decision is still pending.
- In the Plan tab, set the kids' room line to Every 3 days if a daily reminder is too much.
- With Take turns on, a declutter job passes to the next member after each completion, which helps when the same person always ends up tidying.
Common mistakes
Reading 37 tasks as a heavy month: most of them are a short daily tidy in one room. The count shows how often a reminder appears, not how long the work takes.
Ticking the basement job after moving boxes to one side. A three-month task is easy to mark done too early because its next date is far away; if the shelves still need sorting, move the date instead.
Expecting one completion to cover all rooms. Each room line has its own date and is ticked separately.
