Example calculation
Folded fabric planning: worked out from the values already filled in the form above.
Inputs
- Measurements in: Millimetres
- Fabric width: 1,400
- Seam allowance per edge: 10
- Fabric folded in half: ✓
- Your measurements: Width 450 · Length 450 · Quantity 2 · Keep the grain direction ✓
Result
- Required: 0.47 m · 0.514 yd
- Unused fabric area (%): 32.857%
How the calculation works
Folding halves the available layout width and creates two layers. Ordinary pieces are cut in pairs; an odd requested quantity can produce one extra piece. The result reports that extra piece only when it is actually placed.
For a piece cut on the fold, enter the half-pattern width and enable its cut-on-fold setting. That edge stays on the fold, receives no seam allowance and cannot rotate. Turn on folded fabric before using a cut-on-fold piece.
