Example calculation
Find wind: worked out from the values already filled in the form above.
Inputs
- True airspeed (kt): 100
- True heading (°): 0
- Ground speed (kt): 90
- Track made good (°): 0
Result
- Wind from (°): 0
- Wind speed (kt): 10

Subtract the air vector from the ground vector
Enter true heading and true airspeed for the air vector, then true ground track and ground speed for the ground vector. The difference is the wind vector. The result reports wind direction FROM and wind speed.
All four observations should describe the same flight condition and time. A heading from one leg and a ground track from another will not reconstruct the wind for either leg. All bearings must share a true-north reference.
Interpret the observation
The calculation is a vector reconstruction from your inputs. It does not fetch weather, correct instrument error, average changing observations or validate aircraft performance.
