How each medicine works

Medicines in this body system: 6

Prednisone — Synthetic adrenocortical steroid with potent anti-inflammatory effects; causes varied metabolic effects and modifies immune responses.
Hydroxychloroquine — 4-aminoquinoline antimalarial; anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory mechanisms in RA and lupus are not fully known.
Methotrexate — Inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, interfering with tetrahydrofolate-dependent purine and thymidylate synthesis, DNA synthesis/repair and cellular replication. Its mechanism in rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis is unknown.
Colchicine — May interfere with inflammasome assembly in neutrophils/monocytes (IL-1 beta activation) and inhibits beta-tubulin polymerization.
Prednisolone sodium phosphate — Synthetic adrenocortical steroid with predominantly glucocorticoid, anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects.
Adalimumab — Binds TNF-alpha and blocks its interaction with p55 and p75 cell surface TNF receptors.

Each summary is the mechanism line from the medicine’s study card.
