How each medicine works

Semaglutide — GLP-1 analogue that selectively binds and activates the GLP-1 receptor; albumin binding gives it a long half-life.
Dulaglutide — Activates GLP-1 receptors on beta cells, raising cAMP for glucose-dependent insulin release; lowers glucagon, slows gastric emptying.
Tirzepatide — Activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors; GLP-1 regulates appetite and caloric intake. A fatty diacid prolongs half-life.
Liraglutide — Acylated GLP-1 analog; activates the GLP-1 receptor (adenylyl cyclase-coupled) to improve glycemic control.

Each summary is the mechanism line from the medicine’s study card.

What each medicine is used for

Semaglutide — As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes; Reduction of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease; Reduction of sustained eGFR decline, end-stage kidney disease or cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease
Dulaglutide — Adjunct to diet and exercise for glycemic control in adults and children aged 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes; Reduction of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors
Tirzepatide — With reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, long-term weight reduction/maintenance in adults with obesity or overweight plus at least one weight-related comorbidity; With reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity
Liraglutide — Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults and children aged 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes
