Your calculation
- Quantity
- 333.3333333333
- Whole units (rounded up)
- 334
How the calculation works
At breakeven, revenue exactly covers fixed and variable costs.
A worked example
- Fixed costs
- 10,000
- Variable cost per unit
- 20
- Price per unit
- 50
- Profit
- 0
Step by step
- Price per unit − Variable cost per unit = 50 − 20 = 30
- Quantity = (10,000 + 0) ÷ 30 = 333.33
- Whole units (rounded up) = 334 · 334 × 50 = 16,700
Fixed costs do not change with volume; variable cost and price are per unit. The quantity is rounded up because part of a unit cannot be sold.
If one input changes
- Price per unit = 40: Whole units (rounded up) = 500
- Price per unit = 45: Whole units (rounded up) = 400
- Price per unit = 55: Whole units (rounded up) = 286
- Price per unit = 60: Whole units (rounded up) = 250
