Lumber cost and waste
Include a waste allowance in the volume you buy and estimate cost using your own unit price.

Example calculation
Lumber cost and waste: worked out from the values already filled in the form above.
Inputs
- Measurements in: Millimetres
- Waste allowance (%): 15
- Price per output unit (optional): 0
- Your measurements: Thickness 25 · Width 150 · Length 2,400 · Quantity 3
Result
- Net volume: 11.442 bf
- Required: 13.158 bf
How the calculation works
The price is per output unit, here board foot. Enter a price per BF rather than the price of a whole board. The purchase volume includes your waste allowance; the estimate multiplies that volume by the unit price.
For example, 14 BF plus 10% is 15.4 BF. At 4 currency units per BF, the estimate is 61.6. Delivery, tax, grading differences and minimum order charges are not added automatically. A blank price leaves a volume-only result.
