Look up a Hebrew date with the day boundary in mind

Convert a selected civil date into a Hebrew calendar date while keeping sunset and observance times separate.

A civil calendar date is a useful starting point for finding its Hebrew calendar counterpart. It is not enough by itself to establish the Hebrew date of an event that happened in the evening. The day boundary matters.

The converter here uses your browser's Hebrew calendar formatting for the selected civil date. It is a calendar reference, not a sunset calculation, a candle-lighting timetable or a ruling about a religious anniversary.

This converts a calendar date. It does not calculate sunset, Shabbat or prayer times.

Keep three pieces of information together

For a personal event, record the civil date, the place and whether it occurred before or after local sunset. A date-only browser conversion cannot determine that last fact. If the date is needed for a yahrzeit, a birthday observance or another practical religious purpose, confirm the result with a trusted calendar and your community.

Move from a date to the right context

Hebcal's conversion documentation explicitly distinguishes an after-sunset input from a daytime conversion. That distinction is the reason to keep the event context beside the result rather than saving only a number and month name.

Amidora provides a monthly luach alongside prayers and local zmanim on iPhone. Its city-based time display is a separate native feature; this web converter does not reproduce it. Check the selected city, civil date, time zone and the community settings before using any timetable for a practical deadline.

Questions, answered

Does this converter show when Shabbat starts?

No. It converts a date and does not calculate sunset, candle lighting, nightfall or any observance deadline.

What if the event happened after sunset?

Keep that information with the location and civil date, then verify the Hebrew date using an appropriate calendar or community guidance.
