A bird sighting notebook that preserves the clues

Write a manual observation with date, place, identification and notes, then export your record as CSV.

A bird name is more useful when it stays attached to the observation behind it. Record where you were, when you noticed the bird and whether you saw it, heard it or both. Add the clues that made you consider the identification.

The notebook here is a manual writing tool with CSV export. It does not listen to audio, identify a bird, request your location or submit a checklist to a birding service.

Everything in this tool runs in this browser. Your entries are not uploaded. Reloading clears the result unless you download it.

Record what happened before adding confidence

Use a recognizable place description and the observation date. Count individuals when you can, but do not convert an unknown count into one. If the identification is uncertain, say so in the notes and preserve the features you did observe. A careful unidentified record is more useful to your learning than a confident guess.

  • Date and place
  • Bird name or an explicitly uncertain description
  • Seen, heard or both
  • Count, behavior and distinguishing features

Export for your own reference

Open the CSV after downloading it and check that names and notes are readable. The exported file is a personal record, not a guaranteed eBird import format. eBird has its own checklist rules, including date, location and observation-type requirements.

Warbla adds on-device sound and photo identification, a regional field guide and a native journal. Its Pro export is a separate app feature. The web notebook does not transfer entries into that journal. If you share any observation, consider whether an exact location could expose a sensitive nest or encourage disturbance.

Questions, answered

Does a suggested bird name confirm an identification?

No. Compare the suggestion with your location, visible features, behavior and sound. Preserve uncertainty when the evidence is incomplete.

Will this CSV automatically appear in Warbla or eBird?

No. It is a downloaded personal file. Import and submission requirements belong to the destination service.
