Why are a watering event and a moisture check different records?
Keep an inspection reminder separate from a record that water was actually added.
Different events need different labels
A scheduled plant check means that an observation is due. It does not mean that watering is required. A watering event records an action that actually happened, with whatever method and amount were genuinely known. Combining the two can make a history imply that water was added at every reminder.
Keep the plant identifier and date with both kinds of record. If a check led to no action, record the observation without inventing a watering quantity. A later care decision should use the plant’s condition and appropriate guidance, not a calendar interval alone.
A readable pair of records
- Check: date and the moisture or condition observation.
- Watering, if appropriate and performed: a separate dated action.
- If the quantity was not measured, leave it unknown rather than estimating a precise number after the event.
