How can an indoor sticky-card log remain a monitoring record rather than a treatment instruction?
Use an indoor sticky-card record to compare observations without treating captures as a universal treatment decision.
Keep the sampling context
Sticky cards can help monitor some flying adults around indoor plants. Record the card identifier, position and the interval during which it was present. A capture is not automatically an identification, a measure of every pest stage or a count of the total population around a plant.
Comparisons need similar sampling conditions. Changing the position or observation interval can change the record even when the underlying situation is uncertain. Keep photographs and any source used for an identification, and distinguish an uncertain capture from a confirmed organism.
A practical monitoring entry
- Record the start and end dates for the card observation.
- Keep its location and any changed setup visible.
- Use the record as context for a specific assessment rather than automatically choosing a pesticide or a repeated application interval.
