How can new growth be recorded without turning it into a health score?
Describe a visible change in growth without converting it into an unsupported health score.
Choose an observable feature
Record the part of the plant being followed and what visibly changed: a new leaf became visible, a shoot length was measured, or a bud was photographed. Keep the date and the method with the entry. A growth observation does not by itself identify the cause of a problem elsewhere on the plant.
Avoid turning the record into a general health rating unless a defined and appropriate method supports that rating. Two photographs with different scale or viewpoint may not establish a measured change in size. Retain the original observations rather than replacing them with an unexplained score.
Example of a growth record
- Identify the shoot or leaf being followed on a whole-plant photograph.
- If a size was measured, record the unit and measurement points.
- At the next check, use the same feature and method and note any changes in the setup.
