What should happen when a planned plant check is missed?
Keep a missed reminder distinct from a completed plant observation or care event.
Do not fill an unobserved interval
If a scheduled check was missed, the record should say that it was not completed. Do not copy an earlier observation forward or mark a watering event merely to clear a reminder. The absence of an observation is part of the history, not evidence that the plant stayed unchanged.
At the next actual check, record what is observed then and retain the timing uncertainty. An interval between two photographs does not establish when a visible change began. Keep any later care action separate from the missed check and from the new observation.
A simple follow-up
- Record the planned date as missed when no observation was made.
- Add the actual date of the next completed check.
- Describe the current condition without inventing what happened during the gap.
