Separate a supported currency mark from an amount

Strip a recognized currency label such as EUR from 1.234,50 to get 1234.50, without implying any conversion. Keep the currency in a separate note.

What the normalizer removes, and what it does not

Invoices and statements often print the currency next to each amount: EUR 1.234,50, $480.00, 1.234,50 EUR. Before such a column can be added up, the label has to go. The normalizer removes one recognized label at the start of the value, such as EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, TRY, JPY or symbols like $, €, £ and ¥, and a recognized currency code such as EUR or USD at the end.

Removing the label is all it does. It does not convert between currencies, look up a rate, or check that every row in the column uses the same currency. After normalization, 1234.50 euro and 1234.50 dollars look identical.

Normalizing EUR 1.234,50

The page example uses Decimal separator , and Grouping separator . because the amount is written in the continental style. The source value EUR 1.234,50 becomes 1234.50: the label and the thousands point are removed, the comma becomes the decimal point and both fraction digits are kept.

A symbol written after the number, as in 1.234,50 €, is not in the supported list. That value is held for review and the cell keeps its original text. Move the symbol to the front or into a separate column in your copy, then calculate again.

Keeping the currency information

Currency marks in photographed documents

The Tablora app also removes currency marks from cells when it writes an XLSX, for columns it treats as numbers, so the exported cell holds a plain number. The currency survives only in your column header or elsewhere on the page. If a column mixes currencies, split or label it in the app before export.

Small currency signs are easy to misread in a photo. If an amount cell is marked in amber, check it against the source before you rely on the value.
