Why can a financial ratio be unavailable for a particular sector?
Read a sector-related coverage gap without forcing every company into the same available-ratio table.
A standard row is not universally available
Different businesses can report different concepts and statement structures. A reference built around a limited set of concepts can leave some rows unavailable, particularly when a familiar industrial-company measure does not match the filer’s reporting structure.
An unavailable current-assets, inventory or capex row is not a judgment that the company has none of those economic features. It indicates that the declared source selection did not supply that row. Check the actual filing and an appropriate analytical definition before comparing sectors.
Preserve partial useful coverage
The JPMorgan Chase profile has a selected revenue row but no selected capital-expenditure row under this reference’s rules. Its available fact should not be discarded, while the missing one should not be fabricated merely to complete a standard worksheet.
Where a ratio needs an unavailable input, display the limitation for that ratio. Do not convert a coverage difference into a zero, a poor score or evidence that the company failed an investment test.
