Save a receipt with its useful transaction context
The sample receipt text scores 7 for Receipts in Shotnest: receipt and subtotal add 2 each, total and paid add 1, and two prices add 1.
How the receipt score adds up
Each keyword list in the classifier awards 2 points for a matched keyword longer than five letters and 1 point for a shorter one. In the sample, receipt and subtotal give 2 each, total and paid give 1 each. The text also contains two prices, $12.00 and $14.25; two or more prices add 1 point to Receipts and 1 to Shopping, and four or more would add 2 to Receipts instead of 1.
The total is 7 for Receipts and 1 for Shopping, well above the confidence threshold of 3, so the app files a screenshot like this on the Receipts shelf without asking the on-device model.

Keep the fields that identify the purchase
- Check that the merchant name and date are readable in the screenshot, not only the total.
- Keep the line items you may need later, for a return or an expense claim.
- Search the receipt in Shotnest by a word you will remember, such as the merchant or an item name.
- Before sharing, cover card digits or loyalty numbers in a copy and keep the original unchanged.
- Keep the issuer’s own receipt or account record when you need proof of payment.

Fewer fields, lower score
Remove the subtotal line and the text keeps receipt, total, paid and only one price, which falls below the two-price bonus. The Receipts score drops to 4. It is still confident, but the screenshot is now harder to tell apart from another purchase with the same total.
- Saving only the bottom of a long receipt, so the merchant and date are cut off.
- Relying on a total amount as the search term when several receipts share it.
- Reading the Receipts shelf as confirmation that a payment went through.
What the shelf does not certify
The values in the example are invented. A Receipts suggestion means the words and prices look like a receipt; it does not authenticate a payment, create a tax record or validate the document. The classifier tool linked below shows the same scores for any text you paste.
